Project Area A: Response to exogenous cues

We recently discovered that cytomegalovirus (CMV) remodels the identity of fully differentiated alveolar macrophages. This project combines this knowledge with insights into how chronic infections manipulate macrophage progenitors.

We explore how perinatal CMV infections impact on innate cellular barrier immunity. A particular focus is on renewal and function of resident lung macrophage subsets, and thus on immunity to bacterial pneumonia later in life.
